OLD TOWN, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - The University of Maine's Cooperative Extension Program is offering folks a hands on opportunity to better their gardening skills this summer.

Every Tuesday Evening the Extension's Penobscot County Master Gardeners will be on hand at the Demonstration Garden on Roger's Farm in Old Town to try to help folks with any problems they may be having with their gardens at home. The Master Gardeners have gone through 40 hours of classroom training and many of them have worked to maintain the 36 plots at the University's garden for years.

"This is when you have a whole large group of very friendly knowledgeable, hard working and creative master gardeners that can answer people's questions," said the event's coordinator, Kate Garland.

According to Garland, the open house event will be held rain or shine every Tuesday through August from 5:30 to 6:30PM. There are also once a month summer events scheduled with the next one being the 3rd Annual Art in the Garden event at 6PM on August 20th.

"Gardening is a very humbling hobby. So even if you've been gardening for 30, 40, 50 years, I think there's something here that you can learn from," said Garland.
