BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER)-- The Bangor waterfront may be known for festivals like KahBang and big name concerts, but now they are trying their hand at hosting Mixed Martial Arts.
New England Fights will host their "Canadian Invasion" event tomorrow night at 7:00 PM at the Darling's Waterfront Pavilion. The fights will feature men and women from all over Maine and Canada. Currently, there are eight amateur and five professional matches listed on tomorrow's fight card.
This is the first Mixed Martial Arts event to take place at the waterfront, and organizers hope that this is the beginning of many events to come.
"There's a lot of history with the MMA scene in this market. You've got a lot of young up and coming fighters in the UFC scene, as well as in the amateur and the development scenes," said Alex Gray of Maine Production Services. "I think it's something that the region is very excited to see. And hopefully this is the precursor to seeing even bigger fights at the new Cross Center across the street. We're excited about that."
Tickets for tomorrow night's fight are on sale online at www.newenglandfights.com or www.waterfrontconcerts.com, or by heading down to the waterfront box office at Mark's Music in Brewer. Doors will open at 5:00 PM rain or shine. Organizers say if the weather is very bad, the fight may have to be delayed.
