OLD TOWN, MAINE (NEWS CENTER) -- Dozens of kids from Old Town Elementary served up lunch on Friday afternoon at their own restaurant, which they called Peakes Diner, at the Old Town Recreation Center.

The kids did everything from greeting hungry customers, taking orders from a menu, making the food and serving it at tables. They came up with the menu by themselves and even made placemats for the tables. All of the money raised goes towards a program that will help other students at Old Town Elementary get brand new school supplies for the upcoming school year.

Many of the kids say it makes them feel good knowing they helped their peers. "It makes me feel like I'm helping a lot of people when I give just a couple of school supplies away," says 5th grader Elle McPhee, "It feels like I'm helping so many people - and their smiling faces. I really like it a lot."

As of 12:30pm on Friday, the kids had already raised well over $300, which is more than halfway to their goal of $500.
