Gloria Mackenzie, an 84-year-old woman, is the single winner to claim the second largest lottery prize in U.S. history, the $590 million dollar Powerball jackpot.

EAST MILLINOCKET, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A former resident of East Millinocket who collected over a quarter of a billion dollars in Powerball earnings has to decided to share her wealth with that community.

Gloria MacKenzie who now lives in Florida, raised her kids in the East Millinocket School System. She and everyone else in her family got the surprise of their life when the 84-year-old won the largest single Powerball jackpot in American history valued at $590 million. After taxes that totaled $278 million, still a significant amount that the former Mainer has decided to donate to the Schenck high school to help repair it's leaky roof estimated to cost around $1.8 million to repair.

Family members of MacKenzie visited Superintendent Quenten Clark Tuesday morning to share the news about the donation that he describes as make or break for the district.

"I think without that, the school was going to die," said Clark. "East Millinocket was not going to have a school in the long run and I think with this we'll be able to keep the school going for a while,"

According to Clark, no checks have been made out yet and MacKenzie and her family members are still meeting with their lawyers to find out how to make the donation happen.
