FRYE ISLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - Five people are in the hospital, two with potentially life threatening injuries, after a golf cart crash on Frye Island in Sebago Lake.
Frye Island Police Chief Rob Beaulieu says that shortly after 5:30 PM Tuesday, a 9 passenger golf cart went out of control as it travelled downhill on Ridge Road.
Chief Beaulieu says the vehicle, kind of a limo-golf cart like you see in airports, has an abnormally high center of gravity. As the machine went at high speeds downhill, it got out of the driver's control and tipped, throwing the seven passengers out.
Frye Island Rescue were the first on the scene. They triaged the patient and initially called Life Flight, although the call for the helicopter was cancelled as ambulances from Raymond, Naples and Casco showed up.
The victims ranged in age from young kids to adults. The two most seriously injured were an adult and a teenager.
All patients were taken to Maine Medical Center.
The crash remains under investigation.
