AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - A Maine Republican National Committee member and six state committee members have resigned, citing concerns with the GOP in Maine and across the country.
RNC member Mark Willis of Washington County and the others resigned in a letter to the state GOP Sunday.
The group is upset about rules adopted at the 2012 national convention that make it difficult for insurgent candidates to get nominated. They also point to GOP lawmakers' failure to override Gov. Paul LePage's veto of the state budget that raised taxes.
The letter was signed by six others, including former Senate candidate Scott D'Amboise and Sam Canders, who challenged Rick Bennett for state party chair last month. All 13 say they're un-enrolling from the party.
Bennett says he regrets their departure but respects their decision.
