BELFAST, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Police have arrested a man who they believe is involved in a fatal shooting in Belfast.
Police were called to a home at 162 Waldo Ave. (Route 137) around 11:00pm on Wednesday. Officers arrived to find 55-year-old Lynn Arsenault dead and her son, Mathew Day, 22, critically injured. Day was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor for emergency surgery.
A friend of Day was also in the home at the time of the shootings. He was not injured. The friend, as well as a neighbor of Day's, called police to report the shootings.
Police have charged Todd Gilday, 44, of Belfast, with murder. His car was spotted Thursday morning in the parking lot of PenBay Medical Center in Rockport near the emergency room where he had checked himself in.
Police transported Gilday from the hospital to Waldo County Jail. His car was taken to the Maine State Crime Lab in Augusta for examination.
He is expected to make his first court appearance Thursday afternoon.
