FALMOUTH, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - A woman from Westbrook is hospitalized, but escaped serious injuries after her car was struck by a pickup truck on the Maine Turnpike in Falmouth Wednesday afternoon.

State Police say the crash shut down the northbound lanes of the turnpike for three hours. Wanda Brochu, 73, was hit right after she had a flat tired fixed in the breakdown lane. She was struck when she pulled into the path of the truck.

Firefighters used the jaws of life to get Brochu out of the wrecked car. Troopers say this serves as a reminder to use caution when merging into traffic on a busy road.
