PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Interstate 295 southbound has re-opened after reconstruction crews investigated an accident.
Southbound traffic was diverted for much of the afternoon Friday near Exit 7 because of the crash.
The accident happened around 1:00pm just before the Franklin Arterial off-ramp.
The Maine Department of Public Safety says troopers on the scene reported a minivan struck the southbound guardrail and two children were thrown from the vehicle. The boy and girl, both elementary school age, were taken to Maine Medical Center with serious injuries, although not believed to be life threatening. A man and woman in the vehicle suffered minor injuries.
