COLUMBIA, South Carolina (WIS) -- Authorities say a 19-year-old student who died on the campus of Benedict College bled to death after giving birth to a stillborn fetus inside her dorm room.
Coroner Gary Watts said the student, who has been identified as Ayaanah Gibson, was approximately 32 weeks pregnant and had a natural, spontaneous childbirth sometime Saturday or early Sunday.
Gibson's body was not found until Tuesday in her dormitory room, a residence she did not share with anyone else. Watts said the child was also deceased and was not alive at birth.
The initial South Carolina Law Enforcement Division investigation found no signs of foul play.
