PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - A 23-year-old man who was given three life sentences in a 2010 triple killing is appealing his convictions and sentences to the Maine Supreme Judicial Court.
Thayne Ormsby was convicted last year of three counts of murder and one count of arson for the 2010 stabbing deaths of 55-year-old Jeffrey Ryan, his 10-year-old son and a family friend at Ryan's home in the small town of Amity along the Canadian border.
Ormsby's lawyers on Monday are arguing that the lower court judge erred by denying Ormsby's motion to suppress statements he made to police, his motion to move the trial to a different location and his attempt to elicit testimony from an expert on whether Ormsby was able to appreciate the wrongfulness of his conduct.
