BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) --- Many people may wonder if Bangor's new arena will stand the test of time. Meanwhile, the man who the building is named after certainly has.
Woodrow Cross is the chairman of the Cross Insurance Agency, which has the naming rights to the Cross Insurance Center. Cross founded his company and has been working there for the last 60 years. At the age of 96 the company chairman still goes to work each day where he has a hand in directing the business.
Cross first founded his company in the 1950s. His first office was inside his kitchen at his Bangor home. Today Cross Insurance has grown to work for tens of thousands of companies across New England.
Woodrow Cross says he owes his success to hard work, perseverance and keeping a positive attitude.
"If you get down...you have to get up and start again," he said, "and if something happens that shouldn't..there should be a lesson you shouldn't have the same thing happen again."
Cross has also kept his business a family one over the years. His son Royce Cross is the president of the company. Three of his grandchildren also work for him.
Come the end of 2013 Woodrow Cross is set to celebrate a 97th birthday.
