BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - A man police believe is responsible for sexually assaulting a woman after threatening her with a knife went before a judge this afternoon.

55-year-old Ernest Nieders was arrested by Bangor Police Monday in connection to the gross sexual assault of a woman in June. He's accused of attempting to do the same thing to a different woman in July.

According to court records, in both incidents Nieders made threats towards the victims with a knife. It was DNA he left behind according to Deputy District Attorney, Michael Robertson, that led to his eventual arrest.

Officials say that during the course of the assault the victim bit him, caused him to bleed. Officials say they obtained some blood from within the residence and that linked Nieders through a DNA hit.

Nieders is being held at the Penobscot County Jail on $200,000 cash bail. His next court date has been scheduled for November 7th.
