SEARSMONT, Maine (AP) - Maine State Police say a Searsmont man shot in his home by a trooper suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

The chief of the Maine State Police says 42-year-old Leonard Maker is being treated at Eastern Maine Medical Center.

Col. Robert Williams says state police went to Maker's home around 3 p.m. Friday to serve him a protection from abuse order and to arrest him on five warrants for failing to appear in court.

Williams says a trooper got into a confrontation with Maker, who was armed.

Williams says Trooper James MacDonald, who has been with the state police for two years, has been placed on administrative leave, which is customary after a shooting.

MacDonald was not injured.

The Maine attorney general's office will investigate.
