WESTBROOK, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Hannaford, the Westbrook Police Department and Saco & Biddeford Savings all teamed up on Saturday to host a fun, yet educational day for kids in the area; Kids Safety Day.

Families participating got free custom-fitted bike helmets, learned how police conduct investigations, and got a front and center view to watch how the fire department cuts open vehicles to help the injured get to safety.

For the kids, it was a chance to hang out with their heroes, and for the organizers, a way to reinforce safety lessons.

The bank shut down early to host the event; an employee even got the chance to light a car on fire for a demonstration. Organizers are already looking forward to trying this again next year.
