CORINTH, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - Penobscot County Sheriff's Office say an Exeter man, riding his bike, has died after being struck by a car on Route 43 in Corinth.

Officials say that 28-year-old Christopher Nichols, of Corinth, was driving east on Route 43 in a 2007 Ford F-150 when they say he looked down away from the road. Deputies say he then struck 27-year-old Joseph Sweet of Exeter.

Sweet was riding on a three wheel bicycle while is 15-year-old brother was riding his bicycle further ahead and was not struck. Officials say Joseph Sweet was pronounced dead at the scene.

While speed and alcohol don't appear to be a factor, the crash investigation remains active. The investigation will be reviewed by the Penobscot County District Attorney's Office to decide if any charges will be filed.
