AUGUSTA, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - The damage is extensive from an overnight fire in Augusta.

Firefighters say the family that lives at the house at 693 Civic Center Dr. wasn't home when fire broke out so no one was there to get hurt.

The fire department arrived just before midnight on Monday and closed down that section of the road for several hours until they had the fire under control.

The home is outside the hydrant system, so water had to be shuttled in to keep the hoses going.

Investigators from the State Fire Marshal's office were there before crews had cleared the scene to begin looking into the cause of the fire.  The Red Cross also sent in a team to provide the family with whatever help they needed.
