Gov. LePage at Blaine House

AUGUSTA, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - Governor Paul LePage and First Lady Ann LePage kicked off the first of three food drives at the Blaine House in October. This is their third annual food drive to benefit the Good Shepherd Food Bank.

This year, Governor LePage is encouraging all Chambers of Commerce to participate in a food drive in October. Those that do participate have the chance to host a "Business After Hours" at the Blaine House.

The First Family opened their home from 10AM to 1PM on Saturday, October 12 and will do the same for the next two Saturdays.

At the start of the drive, a group of Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts donated food items, especially Easy Mac, in exchange for a tour of the home. Governor LePage took pictures with the kids and joked around with them as he showed them pieces of Maine history. He even joked, "They're all going to be Republican, these kids."

Gov. LePage says he and his wife host the annual food drive because he said, "Having grown up in Maine, I've seen a lot of poverty over the years and having been there myself, it's very, very important that we never forget our roots. And I think it's important that the First Lady and I leading the state, not only lead as a governor but as a person."
