AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - A panel of Maine legislative leaders is poised to decide which recently introduced bills should be considered when lawmakers return in January.

The Legislative Council, the 10-member bipartisan group of House and Senate floor leaders and presiding officers, will meet on Wednesday.

Hundreds of bills were submitted earlier this month by lawmakers and Republican Gov. Paul LePage's administration.

They run the gamut from creating a registry of people convicted of animal welfare cruelty to improving the disability benefits process under the public employees retirement system.

Details on the bills remain hazy as language won't be finalized until they're approved by the council.
