SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Police have identified the Newry man who died in a fiery crash on the Maine Turnpike in South Portland.
Police say 36-year-old Jacob Bartholomew lost control of his car at about 12:30 a.m. Monday and struck a tree, prompting the vehicle to burst into flames.
Only one vehicle was involved and Bartholomew was alone in the car.
The crash was reported just minutes after police had received reports of his car driving north in the southbound lanes in Biddeford. Police think Bartholomew used a median crossover somewhere between Biddeford and Scarborough to get back into the proper lane before he crashed.
