PALMYRA, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- It's a common theme in holiday shows, movies and songs...to be home for the holidays. For two families in Palmyra, that will not be the case after an early morning fire destroyed their home.

The Pittsfield fire department arrived to the Main Street home around 1:45 Monday morning where at that point the house was fully engulfed in flames.

Two families had been living in the single home. All nine people were able to escape without injuries but the family did lose a pet dog in the blaze.

The home was not insured, but homeowner Ben Martin says neighbors were quick to contact him to help in any way that they could.

Martin says the Red Cross would also be reaching out to him to provide their assistance after the fire. If you would like to help out, you can contact the Red Cross Pine Tree chapter at 207-941-2903.
