BELFAST, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Court documents offer new details about what may have caused Todd Gilday to open fire inside of a Belfast home taking the life of 55-year-old Lynn Arsenault and wounding her 22-year-old son Mathew Day.
According to a police affidavit, Gilday told state police investigators he met Day three months prior to the incident and was a friend of Day's girlfriend, Misty Linscott.
It was because of her, Gilday allegedly shot Day and his mother Lynn Arsenault inside their Waldo Avenue Home back in August. Gilday reportedly told investigators he thought Day may have been having an affair with Misty Linscotts mother.
Gilday had previously been upset with Linda Linscott, who is taking care of Misty's children after she lost custody of them. Gilday felt she was trying to help the state keep take Misty's kids away from her.
Day was wounded in the shooting but survived, his mother died of her injuries. A friend of Day's who was in the home at the time, called 911 after Gilday had left.
Gilday is being held without bail at the Waldo County Jail.
