BANGOR (NEWS CENTER) -- An early morning fire in Bangor had fire crews busy Wednesday.

The building at 324 Union Street was completely engulfed in flames when crews arrived just after midnight.  According to Bangor Assistant Fire Chief, Tom Higgins, the building was a single home dwelling that was unoccupied at the time of the fire.  The building has been destroyed.

The biggest obstacle for responding departments were the frigid early morning temperatures.

"This is a tough night with the snow and cold," said Higgins. It's tough on our crews. You can clearly see it that everybody is froze up."

The state fire marshal's office is investigating the cause of the fire.
