PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- After two big snow storms in a week, shoveling more snow is the last thing Mainers might want to do - but a group of volunteers work overtime in every snow storm to help Portland seniors.
Volunteers for the FREE Senior Snow Shoveling Project clear the sidewalks for about 130 people ages 65 and older.
Joan Sheedy, a Portland resident, said she worried about seniors when she learned of the city ordinance that fines people for not cleaning sidewalks.
Nine winters later, her program enlists volunteers as diverse as high school Key Club members, to pre-release prisoners in Cumberland County.
