CARMEL, Maine (NEWS CENTER) --- The members of the Carmel Fire Department are used to helping others, but now they are helping one of their own.

A few weeks ago long time volunteer firefighter and EMT Steve Cyr was seriously hurt when he fell from a ladder at his home. Cyr broke his nose and his arm in three places and colleagues now say he is unable to work.

His fellow firefighters are now doing what they can to help him out by having a fundraiser the night of Saturday January 18, 2014.

"To pay for the hospital bills and his regular day to day expenses, we're trying to have a spaghetti dinner just to raise money to help him out," said firefighter Jason Urquhart, who works with Cyr, "because we all know the bills don't stop even if you can't work...Steve is a great guy to hang around with. He's very friendly, always has a good sense of humor. So to have that gone, it is quite a loss, both professionally and as a friend of all of us, because we're all a big, huge family here."

The Spaghetti Dinner will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Carmel Firehouse. Organizers say any amount of cash donation will be accepted.
