CAMDEN, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Thousands converged in Camden this weekend for the US National Toboggan Championships.

425 teams competed at the Camden Snow Bowl, supporting the nonprofit ski area and competing for a trophy.

Conditions were clear and according to racers, the 400-foot chute had been perfectly greased with ice this season.

The event is taken seriously by some competitors. Others are just as serious about their costumes. Team names like, "Show my you fruit zone," who named the team after a vinyard management term.

This year marks the 24th annual championship and the Competition Chair, Holly Edwards said the numbers in attendance were record-breaking. "We usually do 4 to 6,000 people at a time. We were definitely up to 8 to 10,000 people up on the ice and here on the mountain."

This year organizers installed lighst so racing began on Friday night.
