WESTBROOK, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland has announced plans to build a new facility on its existing property.
The new 25,000 square foot state of the art facility will include more windows and open space to set up more of a home-setting for both the animals and those visiting and looking to adopt.
Each year the Refuge League takes in about 4,000 abandoned, stray, or surrendered animals and they've run out of space.
Right now, the Refuge League runs out of three separate buildings. This new facility will bring everything together under one roof and add 10,000 square feet.
Organizers still need to raise about $2.2-million to meet their $6.5-million goal. They're planning a number of fundraising events throughout the year, but if you'd like more information now on how to donate now, click here.
