AUGUSTA, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Democratic leaders are calling for the release of millions of dollars in bonds they say Governor Paul LePage is holding back. The bonds will allow construction projects throughout the state to go through.

The governor has said he will release them when money the Democrats took from the rainy day fund to balance the budget is returned.

Last week LePage released a bill that would return that $21-million.
The Governor's spokesperson says that while Democrats approved it, they also tacked on $18-million in additional spending - something the governor does not support.

In the meantime, Democratic leaders say they did their part and agreed to return the money the governor wanted.

Both sides say an agreement needs to be reached soon, as construction season is fast approaching.
