It gives newcomers and regulars alike a chance to try Maine Maple Syrup. Sunday hundreds visited Lucerne Maple Products run by the Littlefield family in Holden.
The Littlefields tap 5,000 trees each season. The sap flows in plastic tubes back to the building. That's where Timothy Littlefield spends hours boiling the water off, transforming the sap into syrup ready for bottling.
This year production is down. The Littlefields say syrup-making season started late this year; it hasn't been warm enough during the day for the sap to thaw.
