Sheriff: Convicted sex offender tries to bite corrections officer

AROOSTOOK COUNTY, Maine (NEWS CENTER) — Police say a 38-year-old, convicted sex offender tried to bite a corrections officer and slam a cell door on another. 

Aroostook County Sheriff's Deputies say Maurice Boyce of Linneus pled guilty to three counts of gross sexual assault, three counts of unlawful sexual contact and one count of sexual abuse of a minor last week. 

Police say when Boyce returned to jail and learned he would not be released on bail, "he erupted" and attempted to slam a heavy cell door on an officer and bite another on the forearm. 

Police say neither officers were seriously injured but they are charging Boyce with

"Corrections officers have a very challenging job and deserve great credit for the restraint they are expected to show on a daily basis. We will not tolerate assaults, of any kind, on our officers and staff," said Sheriff Crandall. 

Boyce faces up to 30 years in prison for the sex crimes and another five for assaulting an officer.
