LEWISTON (NEWS CENTER) -- A bone marrow drive scheduled to take place in Lewiston Saturday could be the chance of a lifetime for an 11-year old girl from Greene.
Jasmine Binette was born with a rare congential condition called Shwachman Diamond Syndrome. The condition has weakened Jasmine's immune system to the point she can't go to school because of infection concerns. Weekly blood transfusions and medication keep her alive. now doctors say Jasmine needs a bone marrow transplant, otherwise her condition will lead to leukemia.
The news is another heartbreak for her family.
Jasmine's three year old brother Jacob had the same conditon, and it claimed his life. But Jasmine remains hopeful for a perfect bone marrow match.
"Hopefully we'll fin a match and I get this done and over with and I can finally be a normal kid," said Binette.
The bone marrow drive is schedule to take place at Holy Family Church, from nine in the morning until five in the afternoon. The church is located at 607 Sabattus Street. If you would like more information you can contact Jeanne Lacourse at 783-9040 or by email mrtel@roadrunner.com.
