1 person killed in head-on accident in Alton

UPDATE 3:45pm:  The Penobscot Sheriff's office said, as a result of the crash, 63-year-old Robin Gardner of Lagrange, was killed. The other operator was 25-year-old Tyler Creighton of Medford. He was treated at E.M.M.C. and released. Once he was released from the hospital, police say, he was arrested for aggravated driving to endanger & violation of condition of release. Creighton was transported to Penobscot County Jail and is being held without bail.

ALTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER)--  Police say one person was killed in a 2 car, head-on accident Friday morning. 

According to the Penobscot Sheriff's Department, the accident happened on Rt 16 or the Bennoch Rd in Alton around 7:45 AM. The road was closed for several hours while police reconstructed the accident to determine the cause. 

The driver of the other vehicle was transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center. 

"We expect to release the names and more information later today," said William Birch, Chief Deputy of the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office.
