PROSPECT, Maine (NEWS CENTER) — Two people are dead and one man is in the hospital after a rollover crash in Prospect.
Police responded to the crash on North Searsport Road around 6 p.m. Saturday. Only one vehicle was involved.
All occupants were ejected from the vehicle, and two were confirmed dead at the scene of the crash.
The injured man is at Eastern Maine Medical Center and in critical condition, according to police.
An officer on scene said police did not know if the three occupants were wearing seatbelts, but a crash reconstruction team was on scene to investigate.
In the initial investigation, police said it appears that the vehicle was traveling south on the roadway. They said speed was a factor.
Police said the driver failed to negotiate a turn, crossed the lane and went into a large field. The vehicle rolled over several times causing the occupants to be ejected.
The truck hit a power line, and some people living nearby lost power as a result. As of 9:45 p.m., Central Maine Power reported 33 customers without power in Waldo County.
Officers anticipated North Searsport Road to be closed for several hours.
Officials did not immediately release the victims' names.
