Great Falls Balloon Festival goes Star Wars

The Great Falls Balloon Festival attracted around 100,000 people to the Lewiston area over three days.

LEWISTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Hot air balloons took over the skyline for the 24th year in Lewiston at the Great Falls Balloon Festival.

There were 24 balloons for the 24th festival that included Yoda and Darth Vader specialty balloons. Flights were offered to the public at 6 am and 6 pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The balloon Windspirit  was piloted by Joel Jones from Alabama.

"It's a lot of fun," said Jones. "People are happy when they get around a balloon and we all need a lot of happiness."

Around 100,000 people visited the three day event including Elaine Bourgoin. She got the chance to take her third balloon flight aboard the Windspirit basket. An experience that was just as thrilling as the three times before.

"Everyone needs to do it at least once because you just get to see a different view of the world and it's just very peaceful and very calm," said Bourgoin. "I love it."
