Battling superheroes, horror, alt rock, folk and country are on the table in this week's new releases. Chris and Brett from Bull Moose break it down.
"Captain America: Civil War" – Blu-ray, DVD
Superman and Batman fight each other. Or maybe Iron Man and Captain America fight. Yeah, it’s Cap and Iron Man. This is the good superhero movie from this summer.
Hammer Horror 8-Film Collection –Blu-ray
Hammer Studios is best known for its horror films. This box includes Brides of Dracula, The Curse of the Werewolf, Phantom of the Opera, Paranoiac, Kiss of the Vampire, Nightmare, Night Creatures, and The Evil of Frankenstein, all from the early 1960s, on 4 Blu-rays. Grand Moff Peter Cushing is in both the Dracula and Frankenstein films.
Wilco – "Schmilco" – LP, CD
This album is a big departure from their last album, Star Wars. It’s largely acoustic and sparse. Schmilco still has all of Wilco’s wonderful experimentation but it’s a lot easier on the ears. Also, it contains an easter egg for people who remember the Breeders song “Cannonball.”
The Head & The Heart – "Signs of Light" – CD, LP
The Head & The Heart are a folk pop band, so they might scratch that itch that Mumford & Sons used to. They have a larger band, so the textures vary more. They venture into country rock territory sometimes.
Jason Aldean – "They Don’t Know" – CD
Country star Aldean has withheld his album from streaming services. As you may have heard it takes 42,000 streams for an artist to make what he/she makes from the sale of one CD. He strikes a nice balance between the grit of old country and the sheen of modern pop country.
