ATV accident costs Stacyville man his life

SHERMAN, Maine (NEWS CENTER) – The Maine Warden Service says a Stacyville man died in an all-terrain vehicle accident Saturday night.

Wardens say Byron Jacobs, 38 years old of Stacyville, was killed in an ATV related crash in Sherman.

John MacDonald, spokesman for Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife said Jacobs was operating a 2005 Can-Am Outlander 400 with a 16 year old male passenger. MacDonald says the minor was not related to Jacobs.

Wardens say initial evidence indicates a wheel fell off the ATV causing it to overturn. Jacobs was not wearing a helmet and received a blunt force trauma injury to his head.

MacDonald says Patten Ambulance responded, but Jacobs succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the accident.

Wardens say the 16 year old passenger was transported to the Houlton Regional Hospital with a head injury, but he was communicating with Wardens.

The Wardens Service says the ATV is being inspected for other possible contributing factors. MacDonald says the investigation is ongoing and the state medical Examiner's Office and the Aroostook County District Attorney's Office has been notified about the incident.
