BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER)-- Police responded to a domestic violence report Friday morning at 42 Catell Street in Bangor.
Bangor Police said they received a report of a man assaulting a woman in the driveway. When they arrived on the scene, witnesses told police the man, 51-year-old Gary Dorion, was armed with a hunting knife and a cane and that they saw him drag the woman into his apartment. Witnesses also said that when they tried to intervene, Dorion threatened to kill them. According to authorities, officers made the decision to enter the apartment when Dorion did not answer the door.
"The police officers knocked on the door but received no answer and due to the injury and the reports of the violence and the weapon involved, they decided to make immediate entry. And when they did they found the suspect and the victim in the bedroom in that home inside a tent on the bed," said Sergeant Tim Cotton of the Bangor Police.
Officers found the woman injured and arrested Dorion. He is charged with Domestic Violence Assault, three counts of criminal threatening with a weapon, and drug possession. Dorion's court date is scheduled for October sixth.
The extent of the woman's injuries have not yet been released.
