Public helps identify man involved in Hermon theft

HERMON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The Penobscot County Sheriff's Office has made an arrest in connection to a theft in Hermon and is thanking the public for their help.

On June 30, Sheriffs responded to C&K Variety on Billings Road in Hermon where a male suspect allegedly stole money from a donation box for the Hermon Food Pantry.

The Sheriff's Office accredits the information gathered in calls from the public with identifying James Hayes after they released security camera images of the suspects.

49-year-old Hayes of Bangor turned himself in to his probation officer on Friday morning.

Hayes is currently on probation for a 2007 robbery that he served 5 years in prison for. A probation hold has been placed on him as well as a summons for theft.
