Best Place to Work in Maine kicks off

(NEWS CENTER) -- Maine's Best Place to Work contest is trying to find out what Mainers really think about their workplace.

The is the ninth year the Maine State Council of the Society for Human Resources Management is having the contest, which surveys employees to gather details about their company. The employer also completes a questionnaire. Companies must apply to participate in the program, and it does cost, less than $700 for business with less than 100 employees and less than $1000 for companies more than 100 employees.

"The value is the quality of the information, said Deb Whitworth, State Director of the Society for Human Resources Management Maine State Council.

She also said that not all companies who pay get places on the best place to work list.

Gov. LePage supports the program and the state finds the survey information important.

"The Department of Labor is always to place people in good jobs," said Maine's Commissioner of Labor Jeanne Paquette.

Last year's winner was Puntey, Inc., followed by Maine Community Health Options and Portland Webworks, Inc.
