Brewer residents vote yes on school budget

BREWER, MAINE (NEWS CENTER) - Brewer voters have accepted this year's school budget after a controversialbudget year.

According to the Town Clerk's Office, residents voted 527 to 374 to approve the school budget. The school department is getting less money from the city than it originally asked for.

The school department asked for $1 million in increased spending or it said it would have to cut several co-curriculars and athletics programs. It would have also had to have made cuts to a STEM teacher position.

Last week city council voted to amend the budget to allow funding for the STEM position.

The school department is still waiting to find out how much money it will receive from the state.
