PORTLAND, Maine (NEW CENTER) -- If you've tried, but failed to access websites like Netflix or Amazon, or social media sites like Twitter or "Tumblr," you're not alone.
That's because an internet company has been hit by waves of cyber-attacks. The outages began around 7:00 a.m. Friday morning after the attack hit a New Hampshire-based company.
Outages soon spread from the northeastern United States into the Midwest.
A security expert tells the Associated Press the attacks appear to be someone trying to probe for weaknesses of companies that provide critical internet services.
Affected sites say they are working to get back online as quickly as possible.
