STRONG, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Police have arrested one man as they investigate a fiery fatal crash that killed a Maine resident on Tuesday.
Police say 24-year-old Mark Garner of Rangeley, was speeding and under the influence when he crossed the center line on Lambert Hill Road, hitting another truck head-on.
The person who died in the crash has not been identified by police but is believed to be from Wilton, Maine.
Deputy Andrew Morgan says the victim was driving a red 2004 Chevrolet southbound on Lambert Hill Road and at that same time Garner was driving his pick-up truck northbound.
Witnesses told police, Garner was traveling at an excessive speed when he crossed the center line and collided with the victim. Upon impact, both vehicles immediately became engulfed in flames.
Two passengers in Garner’s truck were able to escape from the fire, however, the victim and sole occupant of the other truck was unable to get out. The victim was extricated by the Strong Fire Department after the flames were extinguished. At this time cause of death and identity of the driver are still pending by the State Medical Examiner’s office.
