Fatal accident in Bethel involving car and motorcycle

BETHEL, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- One man died Sunday afternoon in an accident involving a car and a motorcycle.

The Oxford County Sheriff's Department received a call around 12:30 Sunday afternoon regarding the accident.

Police say the crash happened at the intersection of Rt. 2 and Sunday River Rd. in Bethel.

A car was attempting to turn onto Sunday River Rd. when it collided with a motorcycle.

43-year-old Timothy Daigle of New Boston, N.H. was driving the motorcycle. Daigle was pronounced dead at the scene.

His passenger, 50-year-old Patricia Ensigh, was taken to Rumford Hospital, but then transported by Lifeflight to Central Maine Medical Center. Her condition is unknown at this time.

Steven Thomas and Allison Smith were in the car. They were both sent to Rumford Hospital after the crash with non-life threatening injuries.

Rt. 2 was shut down for several hours on Sunday afternoon while police cleared the scene.

This is an ongoing investigation.
