Jury finds Robert Hansley guilty of murder

Hansley waiting on jury's verdict

UPDATE: A jury found Robert Hansley guilty of murdering Robert Kennedy in Bangor back in 2015. Hansley was found guilty of murder and elevated aggravated assault on Thursday, Dec. 7.

BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) — After five days of testimony, the fate of accused murderer Robert Hansley is in the hands of the jury.

Hansley allegedly killed Robert Kennedy in a Center Street apartment in Bangor back in 2015. Hansley is also facing aggravated assault charges for allegedly wounding another man at the apartment.

Prosecutors say although Hansley was accompanied by Thomas Ferguson, who was convicted of murder in June, it was Hansley who pulled the trigger and shot Kennedy six times. They claim it was an ambush.

"They were together during this whole thing, before during and after," Assistant Attorney General Robert Ellis said. "They were trying to get out of town together, they are doing that because he is guilty."

However, Hansley's defense says that's not true. They claim it was Ferguson who pulled the trigger and that there is no DNA evidence that shows Hansley ever had the gun. They believe Hansley was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong person.

"It was Thomas Ferguson that went up into 201 Center St, started arguing with these two men, and within minutes, or even seconds," Hansley's defense attorney Hunter Tzovarras said. "Pulled out his handgun just as he did before, got violent and shot these two men up."

If convicted Hansley faces 25 years to life in prison.
