Folk festival will feature 40+ craft vendors

BELFAST, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The 2013 American Folk Festival will be kicking off Friday night along the Bangor Waterfront, and there will be much more to see than just the performers.

The folk festival will feature more than 40 craft vendors, giving artists and small businesses the chance to show off their work and offer their products to those in attendance. One of those vendors will be Mark Kuzio of Belfast. And with what he is bringing to the festival, his sales could be on fire. Mark Kuzio has been a potter for more than 30 years.

"It'sbeen a long road as a potter but ive enjoyed it immensely," said Kuzio.

But it has just beenfive years since he started producing his new concept.

"Icall it the patio flame. It's not meant to compete with a fire pit, theres all of those qualities but this is something different and the convenience factor is great," said Kuzio.

And each one is unique in both design and color.

"Sometimes I find that if you dont think about what you're doing, it comes out fine. Sometimes you can over think things. The fun part is to pick out which one because they're looking at maybe 60 pieces in my booth and they're all different," said Kuzio.

Mark makes more than a thousand of them each year, selling them at art shows two times a month on average.

"Theres only a few Maine shows, the Folk Fesitval being one of them," said Kuzio.

And for him, that will be a first

"I visited last year just as a memeber of the public andI loved it. It'sjust a nice mix of styles and cultures and activities and im thankful that they include handmade crafts," said Kuzio.

And now the patio flame will be added to mix of those handmade crafts. A part of the festival that allows small businesses to ignite.

"Imean this is howI make my living. This is the main way that Ii show my work and then I sell my work. I put my stuff out there and hopefully folks appreciate it.It's kind of the entrepenurial way and I'm comfortable with that andI enjoy that," said Kuzio.

And with more than 100,000 people expected to attend the Folk Festival through the weekend, there will be plenty of people for him to talk to.

"Ihaven't shown the work too much in the Bangor area so im really looking forward to it," said Kuzio.
