Fort Kent named "business-friendly" community

FORT KENT, Maine (AP) -- The northern Maine town of Fort Kent has been named one of the state's "business-friendly" communities.

Republican Gov. Paul LePage says that the town that borders Canada has done things like streamlining regulations to help make it more economically competitive. He says the town is committed to "building and maintaining a strong economic base."

Fort Kent becomes the 27th state to receive the "business friendly" designation, which comes with Department of Transportation road signs.

The program evaluates municipalities on issues like customer service, licensing and permitting and business involvement.
