PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- During his weekly radio appearance on WVOM Tuesday morning, Governor LePage says many local media outlets knew about a massive welfare fraud investigation for months, but didn't report it until an out-of-state journalist did.
"We've known about it for awhile and we've been trying to work with Maine media, you know, the journalists in Maine, he said. "We tried to get it out to the people but they just refused. In fact, Rick, if I didn't know better, I'd say they're complicit in this fraud."
Reporters for the Press Herald and the Bangor Daily News who cover the state house say they were never contacted about the case.
NEWS CENTER received a tip about this story on Monday and started working on it an hour before the Governor's office sent a press release, complaining that no one was covering it.
