Holiday weekend marks start of busy tourism season

OLD ORCHARD BEACH, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- With a streak of warm, sunny weather, it finally feels like summer in Maine, attracting plenty of outsiders to the state's coast.

According to the website, nearly 30-million tourists poured into Maine last year, spending about $5-billion. Tourism is such a big industry for the state that it accounts for 89-thousand jobs.

Old Orchard Beach is a popular draw, and it was certainly busy Monday. For a lot of businesses and campgrounds in that area, the holiday weekend really marks the official start to summer, and they'll see the most traffic from now until mid-August.
