Lucas St. Clair speaks about national monument in Unity

Lessons learned from national monument

UNITY, Maine (NEWS CENTER) — Elliotsville Plantation, Inc., president Lucas St. Clair took the stage in Unity on Friday to speak to the community and local students about developments for Maine's new national monument.

"There's a lot of work that is going to need to be done," St. Clair said. "It's just taking on a really different tone about working together and moving forward as opposed to the polarization that existed before."

St. Clair and the National Park Service will be working together to answer some of the questions he still has.

"The controversy is over — you know the park is here," he said. "So now, it's how do these communities around the park capitalize on the new asset? How does development grow? How do we make sure that there are still like authentic communities, and preserve the history of the region?"

St. Clair feels the more he talks with communities about their concerns, the better his plan for development will be.
