Maine warden pilot resigns after recent arrest

BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) — A Maine Warden Service pilot submitted his resignation Monday in the wake of a recent arrest in Bangor.

Charles Later of Shirley was arrested at a concert in Bangor on Sept. 2 and charged with assault on an officer, refusal to submit to arrest, criminal trespass and disorderly conduct.

The pilot was placed on paid administrative leave Sept. 6.

Warden Service Cpl. John MacDonald said the agency "has taken the appropriate measures within its aviation division to ensure the unit is prepared to respond to all search and rescue, law enforcement and resource management needs."

Later's resignation is effective immediately.

No further information was provided by officials.
